Final Project

Our challenge was to, as a class, transform the boring open space in our school's history hall into a room where students can work in groups and collaborate while feeling welcomed by the space.  Our client requested that the space have tables and chairs that can be moved to open up the space, no fabric, an apple TV mounted on the walls, be visually appealing, but not be too comfortable or look like a lounge so that students do not feel like they can just hang around in the space or make a mess out of it with their food and trash. My class presented the final assignment in this Powerpoint presentation.

To meet the client's needs, we picked a warm yellow to open and brighten up the space and blue and red accents to go along with it. Stackable chairs and movable tables of different heights were picked out so that the space could be opened up and projects could be worked on out there and collaboration would be easy.  The architecture of the space impacted our design because we had to make the short space look taller by adding vertical stripes and arranging furniture was a little difficult because of how small the space was.  The existing red color on the doors in the hallway made us choose colors that would complement the red color.

Our guest artist was Mrs. Chang and she gave us input on how to make the space seem larger, what colors should go on which walls, and also assisted in the selecting of furniture for the space, telling me to get a clementine color chair to pull all of the colors together in the space.

To change the space, we painted the walls, added student-made artwork, and ordered furniture to transform the room from boring to inviting and colorful.  I specifically managed the budget of the space and picked out furniture.  I also planned out where the tables and chairs should go in the space when they do not need to be stacked.  I also helped paint the walls and the baseboards and decided where some of the colors should have gone in the space.

I am pleased with how the space turned out because it is now very colorful rather than sterile looking and I think it will be a great place to work on projects in the future.
